In 2018 negotiations, the Alliance continued the protection and improvement of key benefits that has been part of every national agreement since 2000. Download flyers summarizing benefits for Alliance members in Colorado, Georgia, the Northwest, Mid-Atlantic States, and Southern California:
Effective January 1, 2020 members will receive significant improvements in dental coverage across the Alliance. There will be one common dental plan nationally, except for members receiving dental benefits through local union trust funds and in Kaiser dental in the Northwest.
Effective January 1, 2020 each region will have a standard health plan. For some members, this common plan is an improvement. For some others the new plan includes a small increase in co-pays which is offset in value by the significant dental improvements.
And next year there is another benefit improvement coming: in Regions Outside California, employees who retire starting January 1, 2021 will have a 25% increase in their retiree medical benefit. Improvements anywhere in the KP system raise standards for all of us in the long run!
For UNITE HERE Local 5 members in Hawaii, your negotiating team protected your industry-leading benefits during 2018 negotiations, and won increased funding for your UNITE HERE Local 5 trust fund, which funds your active medical, dental, and retiree medical benefits.
For UFCW Local 21 members in KP Washington, your local union’s trust-funded benefits are also maintained — plus, in 2018 the Alliance negotiated the first retiree medical benefits for any employees in the region. This modest benefit, which we will build on when we re-enter negotiations in 2021, has already gone into effect.
